Spotting (and Fixing) QuickBooks Sync Issues When Taking Payment
When you accept a payment (card, cash, or check) on an invoice that’s already been sent to QuickBooks Online, RazorSync tries to immediately sync that new payment with your QuickBooks account. If the connection between RazorSync and QuickBooks Online is offline or having trouble it may impact taking a payment.
- If you’re on the browser (web)
– The payment fails quietly—no “Success,” but unfortunately, not much detail about why. - If you’re on the mobile app
– You'll see a clearer error message:
"synchronization failed with exception Object reference not set to an instance of an object. and inner exception" (Yep, it’s technical, but it means RazorSync can’t talk to QuickBooks.)
How to Confirm It's a QuickBooks Connection Issue
- Check the invoice in RazorSync:
Does it show a status of “Exported to QuickBooks Online”?
If it does, it means RazorSync is trying to pass any new payments straight to QuickBooks—and the hang-up is likely with the QuickBooks connection.
Get Payments Flowing Again—Step-by-Step
- Check your QuickBooks Connection:
- From your RazorSync dashboard, look for any notifications about QuickBooks connectivity.
- If you’re getting errors or seeing failed payment syncs, it’s time to refresh the connection.
- Disconnect & Reconnect QuickBooks Online:
- Only an admin in QuickBooks Online can reconnect RazorSync—grab your credentials!
- In RazorSync, go to your QuickBooks integration settings.
- Disconnect the QuickBooks account.
- Reconnect by signing in again with your QuickBooks admin credentials.
- Retry the Payment:
- Once reconnected, go back to the invoice and re-process the payment (credit card, cash, or check).
- You should see a confirmation, with the payment now syncing smoothly to QuickBooks Online.
